Hi, My name is Ella Rowley. I am in the middle of my junior year of high school (11th grade) at Mayo High School, in Rochester, Minnesota. I have always enjoyed school a lot because it keeps me productive. With School assignments and clubs keeping me busy I seldom find myself being bored. I also enjoy learning new things especially things that are math and science-related as those are my favorite subjects. However, I also often times find history to be pretty interesting as well. As of now, I am thinking of majoring in math once I get to college, but there are many different types of math majors to choose from depending on where you decide to go to college. When choosing which math major to complete, I will probably have to look into what majors would work for my selected career path. I am pretty sure that after college, I want to start training to become an actuary. However, if I can get away with not getting an actuarial science degree, I think a more general math degree might be better so I have more to fall back on if my career of choice fails to work out.
I am currently employed following one of my other passions in life: Animals. As a young child, I grew up surrounded by animals. My mom is a veterinarian and owned her own practice for the first few years of my life. I would often come to work with her and “help out” with the animals she had to take care of. This is where my passion for helping animals first sprouted and it has continued to grow ever since. I am now employed at our local humane society where I work with all the cats that are being sheltered there.
Some of my favorite activities to do when I am not going to class, or work, or doing homework include band, gymnastics, and diving. When I go to college I may consider continuing with band or diving, but they probably won’t be huge factors in my college decisions. This year will be my sixth year of playing in the concert band, and my second year of playing in the marching band. So far, I much prefer concert band over marching band. This year will be my third year participating in the Mayo band, but my sixth year of doing band overall. In the band, I generally play the euphonium, but occasionally I will play the trombone. For the people who don’t know what a euphonium is, it looks like a tuba but plays mostly in the range of a trombone. Most people don’t know what a euphonium is, and as a euphonium player, I am often forgotten, even by my band director. Another thing that takes up a lot of the time in my life is gymnastics. I have done competitive gymnastics for over ten years through J.E.T.S. Gymnastics. However, this year I am doing gymnastics though Mayo in hopes of having more time to do other things and to letter.
